OUR MISSION

In 1977, a group of Yale students and activists observed that there was no clean, comfortable place to get a free meal in downtown New Haven and dedicated themselves and their resources to serving the community. Since then, the Community Soup Kitchen has gone from a small guerrilla organization to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves over 75,000 meals annually across multiple locations in the downtown area. Until the day we are no longer needed, we will continue to serve meals year-round to anyone who walks through our doors. We believe having a cheerful, clean, safe, reliable place to eat is not a privilege, but a human right.
