While many stars do take part in philanthropy, few have deeply embedded doing good into their brand and persona. Harry Styles is an English singer, songwriter and actor whose signature “Treat People with Kindness” line is not only a song on his latest album, but a motto encouraging everyone to be kind.
His musical career began in 2010 as a solo contestant on the British music competition series The X Factor. Following his elimination early on, he was brought back to join the boy band One Direction, which went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. He has since become a successful solo artist.
When not being an absolute rock star, Styles puts a lot of value into philanthropy and his “Treat People with Kindness” campaign. Harry uses this campaign and his immense following on social media to promote how we should go above and beyond by being kind to others and giving back when possible. Styles consistently demonstrates how much he values inclusivity, which is evident in everything from his merchandise to his shows.
Styles has worked with the U.S. education organization Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) on their pride campaign. Together, they created limited-edition rainbow T-shirts with his iconic “Treat People with Kindness” slogan. This campaign raised awareness about protecting LGBTQ+ youths in schools. Styles’ campaign and tours have raised $1.2 million for charities.
